Smart Photonic Materials Group has opened a PhD position focusing on supramolecular liquid crystal elastomers. The project will explore how halogen bonding can be used to enhance the properties and multi-responsive behavior of liquid crystal elastomers—materials with growing importance in advanced functional systems.

The doctoral researcher will be co-supervised by Prof Arri Priimägi and Dr. Hongshuang Guo, working within a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. The position is connected to the European Research Council (ERC)-funded project “Multimodal Sensory-Motorized Material Systems”, which aims to develop next-generation responsive materials capable of sensing and actuation.

This opportunity offers a chance to contribute to forefront research in smart materials and supramolecular chemistry while being part of an internationally recognized research initiative.

Applications can be submitted through the official Tampere University portal.

Prospective candidates or those seeking further information are encouraged to get in touch with the supervisors with any questions.
